What I'm Currently Reading

The reason I adored this book so much is because it reminded me a great deal of Jane Eyre, which is one of my all-time favorites. A dark, brooding hero, a talented beauty once a favorite  with the Ton now down on her luck, a gothic feel to the castle. It doesn't have the twisting, intricate plot of Jane Eyre, but the plot is enjoyable and wrapped up nicely. I also really enjoyed the characters, all of them, including the side characters. The hero's sister is a hoot! She's completely, endearingly annoying and interfering, but she propels so much of the plot. Instead of being aggravated with her, you just can't wait until she graces the page again.

This is a sensual book. No sex, but there is great chemistry between the characters (perfect heat level for me) and the hero occasionally mutters biblical swears. I did not find this offensive, but thought it added to the overall tone of the story.

Jane Eyre
By Charlotte Bronte
Theft of Swords
By Michael J. Sullivan
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
By J.K. Rowling
To Kill a Mockingbird
By Harper Lee
Pride and Prejudice
By Jane Austen
For the pure love of romantic comedy--Austen is the master, plus she shattered cultural norms.
I adore the whole series, the world she built, the characters she created, but there is just something really wonderful about the third book. The story is so complex, yet underscores a simple truth: how a young boy is yearning for his family.
One of the better modern-day fantasy authors.
I've always been fascinated with the War of the Roses in British History. This series breathes life into the women who lived and died in that treacherous time. My medieval romance, The Entangled Princess, is set in such a time with the same kinds of political intrigue and danger.
Heartbreaking and helped me understand cultural bias. Plus, Atticus Finch is one of the all-time great heroes in American literature
Life-altering--I learned to follow my heart, like Jane.
